Gov. David Paterson came to Syracuse today to announce an energy project that will increase the amount of solar energy produced in the state by five. Paterson said plans are in place to install 100 megawatts of solar panels statewide by 2014. Currently, the state has a 22-megawatt solar system. The new project will be largest solar initiative in state history and will create jobs, spur economic development and reduce New York’s carbon footprint, Paterson said.

"If Albany’s lawmakers cannot tell voters that they have started draining their political swamp, then they have nothing to offer this fall. New York voters should let their elected representatives know that they want ethics reform — or new representatives. That would strengthen Governor Paterson’s hand."

"The governor's plan is the most sweeping reform of public higher education in decades," said Clinton Community College President John Jablonski. "By using high-impact, zero-cost solutions, the legislation will create jobs, build the foundation for tomorrow's economy and strengthen public higher education — while saving millions of taxpayers dollars."

"[Governor Paterson] continues to be one of the most bold and interesting governors in this nation. Paterson is being exactly what so many of us have said for years that we are looking for in our elected officials... We often repeat over and over again "if we just had someone willing to take on the vested interests and do what is right." Well, folks, we have someone now like that and his name is Governor David Paterson."

"To his great credit, Mr. Paterson skipped the usual, and usually insincere, homages to his fellow politicians and went straight into an unsparing assessment of fiscal and political reality. He insisted that the Legislature attack economics and ethics at the same time...The full details of his economic plans will become clearer when he presents his budget later this month. But Mr. Paterson made a good start on Wednesday by asking the assembled lawmakers — who mostly looked on sullenly or applauded wanly — to cap spending so Albany can finally get a grip on a deficit that is expected to be about $8 billion this year."

In his second State of the State address, Governor David A. Paterson outlined his plan to rebuild New York through firm and decisive steps – including fiscal and ethics reform and an economic development plan that puts New Yorkers back to work. The Governor laid out an agenda to end the culture of over-spending and abuse of power that has for too long dominated State government, including a proposal for sweeping and comprehensive ethics reform - the centerpiece of which is a new independent Ethics Commission.
